Filmed in the Himalayan mountain region of India known as Ladakh, Road to Ladakh is a beatiful and entertaining story about two unknown people. A dysfunctional behaviour american reporter, Sharon, and a nameless strong silent stranger, Shafiq, are brought together in the surreal moonscapes of the Indian high altitude desert of Ladakh, when a mechanic mistakenly exchanges their car tired. Both travelers are alone and in search of companionship, so they end up spending the night together. It will be a humorous point the tension between a sexually inexperienced Shafiq and the giddy Sharon, however, they fall in love. A mystical journey in which they will find Mondolian nomads Buddhist monks, crazy Swiss cyclists, philosophical soldiers, Bengali ballonist and affable grand old general of the Indian army.

But their tryst is shadowed by the growing menace of the army and John Chacko who, unsatisfied by the alibi provided by Sharon, pursues the couple relentlessly.

A romantic thriller, writted and directed by Ashvin Kumar, that was shown at the 2003 Cannes Film Festival market. The original musical score was composed by Susmit Sen and performed by the group Indian Ocean.

Ashvin Kumar took a degree in Media and Communicacions from the University of London. Since this moment, he began working like an actor and director in theatre. Thus, during 6 years, he was editor, producer, actor and director. He directed short films, commercials and music videos as well as set up and ran a digital editing studio in Delhi.

In 2001 he moved to London where he attended the London Film School. Over there he wrote, directed and produced short films like First Day Out and Sam, a ten minutes short about a young couple coming to terms with the loss of their only child. Also, he wrote two feature films called Cricket and Samir. Ashvin will be travelling to film festivals worldwide to promote Road to Ladakh, his first hour-long feature.

However, his great success was Little Terrorist, a shortfilm that was nominated for the Best Short Film at the 2005 Oscars and it get several awards in Film Festivals as Flanders International Film Festival or Montreal World Film Festival.
